Tonight I had to attend a Networx Event....as much as most networking events are important for most industries, unfortunately my networking gene has been used and abused to the point of no return. Having previously worked for a charity for 5 years prior to my current role, I went to every single networking event under the sun, so in all honesty I am well and truly OVER THEM!! So when I was informed I had to go, I was like nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! LOLWhen I arrived I avoided the "networking scene" for as long as possible, choosing to chat with people I already knew. I was talking the GM of the place it was held and then we got told the networking games were starting and he ran a mile (can't really blame him) so I was forced to get my chat on...although rather than actively working the room, I just stood there and waited for people to come to me. So lazy!! LOL Can't say it was very successful...
I met a classic girl who works for a Retirement Village who called herself the troublemaker as she gets bored really easily, some random intern who's only question to me was, "do you come to these things often??" ahhh no, some chick that works for a Hotel chain that didn't actually tell me anything about herself and then I finally re-connected with someone I knew back at my previous job and I stuck with her alllllllllllll night. LOL
Thankfully the "games" were over and it was time for the Guest Speaker, Sue Currie. Seriously I was dying and couldn't have grabbed a seat fast enough. HA!! Sue was really really engaging and is damn good at public speaking. Her speech was all about personal branding and impression management which is what she consults in. She provides corporate and independent professionals with successful solutions to enhancing image and brand. Believe me when I say it, this woman walks her talk. She looked fab, spoke clearly and you honestly believe everything she says...she's GOOD.
Michelle Bridges engaged Sue and worked with her personally develop to the point where she was ready to audition for The Biggest Loser and breeze the role in. Michelle really took herself to the next level and has now created a fabulous personal brand.
Sue asked us all to go through a worksheet whilst she was talking, some of which I personally found really hard to answer. It's a LOT easier to answer questions about the business brand you work for, than your personal brand in my opinion. Hmm she definitely made me think a lot about myself, I actually felt quite boring and unexciting as I struggled to answer some of the questiions. After she was finished, there was more networking at the bar, ahhh not for me, I quickly made a beeline for the exit and literally ran to my car. xx
