Day 15 - The Clean Up Begins

Mimmy & I getting down and dirty...see we're not diva's!!

Today is hardcore clean-up day...it took us nearly an hour to get to Kate's pares place because there were so many people on the limited roads to embark on the massive clean-up effort that needed to get underway in Brisbane. I don't know anybody who didn't want to help out in some way and that to me, is what the human spirit is all about.

Destroyed possessions.

I cannot tell you how freaking heartwarming it was to be part of the flood-coined term "mud army" aka thousands upon thousands of people, getting absolutely filthy and doing whatever it takes to get the job done and majority of the time it was for complete strangers. It was incredible.

There were 10 year olds handing out cookies, endless amounts of people offering cold drinks and sandwiches, people with baskets of important incidentals e.g. toilet paper and cleaning products, people decked to the nines with every type of brush, broom, tool that were just walking the streets offering to help. It was electric and sincerely helped with making sure those who were feeling the brunt and sadness of the floods had their spirits perked and showed them, that with a little help from our friends and community, we will get through this.

Liz's once beautiful green and lush garden was one big sludge pile, but to keep with only pushing positivity, I told her that it's now rockin' the "river meets jungle" look and that I hear it is quite popular in QLD at the moment. This made her laugh. ;)

I may have shouted out quick girls get in here, it's porn for women...three gorgeous guys mopping the floors when this photo was taken!! LOL xx
