One of my favourite drinkies aside for pink champagne is Umeshu (pronounced you-mesh-shu) aka Japanese plum wine (or fruit liqueur if you want to get specific). It is the most amazing wine that you can honestly drink allllll night.
It isn't like normal wine, served in a fancy wine glass, this wine is served in a scotch glass with loads of ice. The ice truly enhances the flavour and the drink is best when the ice has slightly melted, as it makes the wine smoother and takes the 'tart' edge off the yummy sweetness.
These are some of the different variations of the wine (royal honey, extra shisho and extra years) that we brought back last year from Japan, where it is SO cheap at Duty Free...and yes, those are real plums in the bottles. This wine is hard to get here and the only place we have see it before is at Dan Murphy's (however it is in a different bottle that looks like a tallie, sans the plums!!), but its usually sold out.
I swear there should be special allowances on alcohol that is really hard to get in Australia, you should be allowed to bring back double!! LOL Anyone going to Japan needs to try this drink or pick up a bottle at the airport on their way home, you will NOT be disappointed. ;) xx
