One thing I never envisaged when accepting this role was that I would be going back to basics and literally learning old school style, all the important facets of Marketing and personal development that is required for my role and attending Westfield Uni - courses designed specifically for Westfield employees. I can now see why they prefer to get their Marketing staff fresh out of Uni to mold them into the Westfield way of thinking and ideally a Marketing Executive (my role) has had many years in a Marketing Assistant capacity before being promoted.
I knew this when coming into a hugely successful business that a certain level of structure was going to have to be adhered to and they were very honest with telling me that everything I have done before when I have had full creative control would be no longer. They usually promote from within and I can completely understand why, so I am stoked that they deceided to go with someone who comes with an outside perspective and that that is actually a good thing. ;)
Westfield Uni is fun, some lessons you take from it what you need to, because ultimately we all have our strengths and weaknesses, others are teaching you principals and procedures that you need to learn to adapt to using. In some instances they get you to do questionnaires a week prior to the day so they can focus the course on the areas that the majority of people need skill-building in.
All the Marketing Departments from QLD attend so it has been awesome for me, a newbie, to get to know all the girls and two guys (LOL) from all the other centres because as a region we do work relatively closely together. The day is completely catered for so as I tweeted the other week...there's definitely no poor Uni students here!! LOL xx
